Kelly was the resident 'rock chick' (&
football head) of
Australian Idol who didn't actually think she would get in cos of her style.
But the 22-year-old did and each week she rocked about the stage with some
wicked rock tunes until she was voted off (after being in the bottom three,
three weeks in a row) on the Australian Made night.
When she was a kid Kelly used to sing into a bottle of hairspray and put on
performances her friends from primary school. She was
always the one in charge and was very much the leader of the pack. It seems that not much has
changed since then! Kelly describes herself as a “what-you-see-is-what-you-get”
type of
person and is often found fighting for the underdog.

She also (believe it or not) used to sit on her bedroom floor and listen to Kylie Minogue! She’s always
liked rock music because “you can have fun
dancing and mucking around – it’s just funky” and has never been a fan of
ballads. Unlike some of the other finalists, Kelly’s been going
about wearing a hat and sunglasses because she doesn’t always want to be recognised by fans. People have been asking her for autographs
and even copying her look, which she finds a bit of a spin out!

Kelly has done a little amount of voice training but has mostly taught her self. She went to a co-ed school in Adelaide but didn’t
do a lot of serious singing during the time she was at high school.

She had a dream of starring in the end of year concert in her final
year of school but was too scared to try through despite her friends
knowing that she could pulled it off. Over the last few years, her friends
have really encourage Kelly to get more and more involved in singing and she
absolutely lives for it. Her band “Turn It Up” really goes off at various
pubs around Adelaide, with Kelly doing the lead vocals.

Kelly seems to have boundless energy but when she unwinds she does so by
trying a spot of yoga, which she tapes off
the telly in the mornings and then looks at later in the day. She has also
been known to play a bit of netball, but this isn't often. She would rather be kicking back on
a couch or just chatting away and hanging with
her friends at her local pub.

One of her bedroom walls back home in Adelaide is covered in posters of the
Simpsons and Kramer from Seinfeld. The other walls, which are free of
posters, are painted purple! Kel finds it a very relaxing colour and, as the
rest of the house walls are painted white, she reckons it’s also a bit
different. She is certainly an individual.

Kelly's number one fan is Angelo, her dad. He says that although his
daughter has a
tough exterior, she is really just a “big marshmallow inside”. Before moving
into
into Idol HQ, Kelly was still with her family in Adelaide and
her dad (like all Dads) often hassled her about clean up her room. Some things never
change and her room at HQ is just like her room in Adelaide but without the
posters. She has about ten pairs of ‘skaties’ (shoes, that is)
because she’s a bit of a skate girl, who will never part with her Connies or
be seen in high heels!! She is also the inventor of the fashion craze the 'skipant'
a skirt worn over a pant. I reckon this looks wicked on Kelly, particularly
with some of the colours and accessories she teams together!

Naturally Kelly was apart of the Australian Idol tour and as usual she
performed a wicked rock song! To see what songs she performed check out the
'Song Kelly Sang On Australian Idol' link. Since Australian Idol she has
done a few public performances including at Adelaide's Skyshow which I was
lucky enough to be at!! YAY, she is soooo cool live!

And we'll be seeing a lot more of Kelly, well if you watch Video Hits that
is cos Kelly scored a job co-hosting Video Hits with Axle Whitehead, a
semi-finalist in Australian Idol! Lucky girl!
