What Guy Has To Say About The Songs

From Guy's official site - www.guysebastian.com.au

Angels Brought Me Here

"I reckon it really sums up just what I felt as far as the competition goes. It's a very overwhelming process to go through and you really do think that there's something else that got you there. Especially with how I didn't feel confident before and then something just clicked and I could look people in the eyes and try and deliver a song. It's a great, inspirational song that sums up how any of the winners would have felt."

So I

"It's a very R&B, really funky track. I think it's pretty cutting edge. The lyrics are "So I live each day as if it's my last." It's basically saying I'm going to be the best I can and I'm going to make the most of what I've been given. It's not saying I'm going to be perfect in everything I do, but that I'm just going to be true to myself."

Can You Stand The Rain?

"It's an upbeat ballad. It's an old song done by new edition. It's basically about how in relationships the great times are obviously gonna be cool but it's when those trying times come "when the rain comes" that determine whether you can actually stick around. It's talking about the testing times in a relationship which we've all been through and how good you come out at the end of it."

No One Can Compare (To You)

"It's about all the friends you've has in your life, all the people, all the lovers who've come and gone and just realising that no one can come close to this person that it's written about. It's a very nice, funky, love song. I've done quite a few high bits in it. I always get embarrassed doing them. I remember in high school I sang this really high note and people were laughing because I sounded like a girl! I reckon I was the only freak in the school who listened to Prince! I can't wait to be laughed at by my school friends. I hope they sort of get it now!"

All I Need Is You

" I wrote this song about a year and a half ago and revisited it for the album. I got a few things changed and worked with a few guys to change a few chords and make it sound a bit boppier. It's my favourite track on the album. Every time I listen to it I smile, it's such a good feeling song. I was in a relationship at the time and I wrote this song about how I used to think "Yeah, I'll get my career under my belt. I don't need anybody." But when I found this girl I went out with for a couple of years I thought "All I need is her." It's funny how your priorities change when you meet someone you care about."

What A Wonderful World

"It's a Louis Armstrong cover, of course. I put a bit of my own funky urban spin on it plus a ethnic and tribal feel with the instrumentation. This is the song that got me into the top 12 on the show and I think it's the show that I really broke through on my ultra nervousness and had a little spurt of confidence. That's probably because I'd arranged it and put my own spin on it."

My Beautiful Friend

"A very special track. A very close friend of mine had written this for someone who was going through a very hard time and basically it's talking about holding on and being strong and knowing that at the end of it it's going to be amazing. I remember singing this song at 4 in the morning. Adam (Reilly, producer) will kill me for saying this, but I was in the studio and I'm singing and I'm just feeling it and I started crying and I walked into the room and Adam's sitting there crying to."

Something Don't Feel Right

"It was quite funny trying to pass this off as a possible song. I'd come up with this hook at the start and I'd done about 20 different multi-tracked voices and it's just this big weird hooky beast. It's basically a song about trust and it says if every time I turn around I'm busting you how am I supposed to trust in you? Which I've been through, as many other people have.... Those experiences in relationships where you go through some stupid stuff and you write an angry song."

When Doves Cry

"John Foreman and I basically got it in one take. We didn't have a lot of time to do it and we kind of did this piano thing where he played and I played at the same time and I sang. There was this one point where we did this run and he got to the same chord as me and we got to the end of it and looked at each other and thought "That was really cool." We tried to do it again in case we might get a better one but it didn't work. I consider this more as a tribute to Prince than trying to be as good as him."

Just As I Am

"The reason I think I chose it is because it totally sums me up. It's just a great track that just says all I can give is myself. there's a great raw urban feel to it. I just turned the lights off in the studio trying to get a vibe."

3 Words

"It's really cool. It's a love song that doesn't actually say "I love you." It just says "3 words." It's basically about the power of three words. It's kind of an upbeat ballad with a kind of funky, raw, acoustic almost baby-face vibe."

i 4 u

"This is the one I was awake for a long, long time recording, 83 hours. It's a very positive song and it's got a real Neptunes feel to it. I think it's really cutting edge. It's very trippy and a big club jam and it's really great to dance to. Every time I chuck it on I just want to dance!"
