What Shannon Has To Say About The Songs

From Shannon's official site - www.shannonnoll.com.au

1. Drive

“The first time I heard this, I went ‘Geez I know that demo singer!’ And they said, ‘You’d wanna know. That’s Bryan Adams!’ I said, ‘You’re joking!’ But I was stoked to do it. It’s a really great, catchy song and I’m looking forward to playing it live. It’s one for the car, I reckon!”

2. New Beginning
“This was a late inclusion on the album. It’s a great song and it’s got a great feeling for me cause it’s all about starting anew. I relate to this song heaps”.

3. What About Me

“That’s just an all time classic, I reckon. It‘s just a great song about average people, and there are a lot of us out there. People relate to it so well. I’ve had people come up to me and say, “I loved the song before you did it, and I love it even more now”. I didn’t mess around with it heaps, I just sang it as honest as possible”.

4. Burn

“A tasty little pop gem. A slowburner. The words are terrific”.

5. Sittin’ Pretty

“Poppy song. A good, fun song. We got it pretty quickly in the studio”.

6. Learn To Fly

“That’s my fiancée, Rochelle’s favourite song on the whole album. It’s says that no matter how hard things get, you can overcome them and find your wings and learn to fly again. So it’s about getting overcoming adversity. I relate a lot to this song”

7. Promises

“A poppy sort of song. It’s just about a guy saying to a girl he’s gonna keep the promises he made to her”.

8. Tune In

“It’s great! It’s got this really high note in the chorus and I’d been a bit sick and I thought had no chance of getting it. So we were going to turn the backing vocals up and I was gonna sing underneath them. But when I got into the studio, I just went, ‘I’m gonna have a crack at it!’ And I got it every time. My producer went ‘That’s a Farnham note!’ It was quite funny.”

9. Prove

“It’s just about a bloke who loves a girl and she makes it hard all the time and he’s just asking her ‘What am I supposed to do? I’m doing everything I can but nothing’s ever good enough’.

10. Wise

“Written in Nashville. It’s just a really cool song. It’s not overly country. It’s more of a ballad. Just a really, really nice song”.

11. The Way She Loved Me

“It’s a tender ballad. Just beautiful. It’s about a bloke who’s been really deeply cut by a girl and he’s always thinking about how she loved him. He’s still waiting for her. It’s a bit of a sad song”.

12. The Way That I Feel

“I wrote this with my brother Damo. It was half-written about 10 years ago, then I had a few beers one night and thought, “I’m gonna write the rest of it”. I’d just been told by Rochelle that we were gonna have a baby and I incorporated that feeling into it”.
