'What a Guy'
March 1st, 2004 - Eve Reitmajer
AUSTRALIAN Idol heart-throb Guy Sebastian thinks Townsville is "incredible".
In the city yesterday to headline a long list of entertainers at Flinders St
East's grand opening, Sebastian said the response he received at the airport
upon his landing had been his biggest ever.
"The reception I got when I came home from performing in World Idol didn't even
come close -- it was nothing like it," he said.
"The reception at the airport here was just incredible."
Sebastian, already familiar with Townsville after performing here more than two
years ago as part of a touring gospel band, said despite the overwhelming
reception he felt relaxed and at ease. "I love this weather, all the palm trees,
it is just so tropical," he said.
"You feel like you are on holiday as soon as you set your foot down here."
And despite Sebastian's incredible rise to fame which has already seen him
perform internationally, the World Idol contestant said he would always have
time for performances such as the Flinders St East opening.
Whether he was playing in front of 400 or 40,000 fans it was all the same to
him.
"As long as there are people listening I don't care," he said.
And he promised Townsville a night to remember.
"I'll sing my guts out -- sing to the best of my ability and give it all I've
got."
