'On The Road Again'

TV Week - March 22nd, 2004

TV WEEK went bush with Shannon Noll for a look at his latest video clip and found the Idol is a would-be actor!

We all know Shannon Noll is a talented singer, but did you know he has aspirations to act?

Shannon’s second video involves a lot more than just lip-syncing. Cue Oscar nomination speech!

“I’ve always been interested in it,” he says. “At school, I was always doing drama and that sort of stuff.”

Shannon’s latest video clip, for the single “Drive”, sees him play a country mechanic who falls for a mysterious brunette who arrives in town in a seriously cool car!

“It was a big, shiny, black 1973 XB Falcon similar to the V8 Interceptor Mel (Gibson) drove in Mad Max,” Shannon says. “I got to do all my own stunt driving!”

Shannon also had fun acting out the clip’s story.

“This time I think it was a little more fun for me,” he explains. “Just the concept. The first one was a really, really great video but all I had to do was perform the song in different locations. But this one has a bit of a story to it and there is a little bit of acting involved… well, if you could call it that,” he laughs.

Shannon co-stars with actress/model Jocette Monique and ex-Murder Call star Peter Mochrie.

Like any movie set, conditions were hard: 5am starts, blistering heat and tight deadlines kept the cast and crew on their toes. So how did they manage to keep cool in the heat?

“We just sat in the Tarago with the airconditioning on,” Shannon laughs. Shannon says he couldn’t be happier with his new video. “I was really stoked that they wanted to do an extra-long clip with it and make a bit of a story out of it. I really enjoyed doing it. It was great fun.”

And we’re sure fans will love it, too.

Saying Hay to a hero
When Shannon Noll arrived in Hay in the NSW Riverina district to begin filming his video clip, you could hardly blame the locals for being interested.

Eight hours’ drive from Sydney, it’s not often a star comes to town.

Shannon’s trip coincided with a swimming championship being held at the local pool and before long, many of the competitors had abandoned their races and were lining up to speak with their Idol.

“I had half the swimming carnival out the front of the place we had lunch at one day,” Shannon says.

“They were in their cossies and I was signing swimming caps and towels and stuff like that!
