'Guy Gets On Famously'

The Herald Sun - The Eye - 26th February, 2004

FRO bro Guy Sebastian has been racking up the celebrity contacts.

In Melbourne to promote single All I Need Is You, Sebastian has just returned from a presenting stint at the MTV Asia awards.

The Idol victor is going great guns in Malaysia -- his first single, Angels Brought Me Here, is No. 1 on the charts there.

Backstage at the awards, Sebastian hung out with the Black Eyed Peas and Liberty X (the girls from the British group loved his album and told him he should have won World Idol).

He can also count Friends star Matthew "Chandler Bing" Perry as one of his fans -- the actor was seen buying Sebastian's album in Sydney recently.

The singer revealed he might be teaming up with one of his musical idols, R&B artist Bryan McKnight, on his next album.

Sebastian has thrown himself straight back into songwriting for the album, which could be out as early as October.

He even wrote a song while in the green room waiting to appear on Mornings with Kerri-Anne this week.

Sebastian said he would love to continue a career in songwriting if the whole pop star thing went pear-shaped.

"It's where I'm in my element," he said. "Even if I'm not singing any more, I'm just in the studio writing. I'd be happy to do that because it leaves me somewhere to go afterwards."

And what can we expect from album No. 2? "It will be different," Sebastian said. "It will be me. I want to make it edgy."

Sebastian says there's definitely no rivalry between him and mate Shannon Noll, who is dominating the ARIA charts.

"I've had my single, and now it's his turn and he's doing an amazing job," he said.

Idol fans will be thrilled to learn Sebastian's show-stopping version of Climb Every Mountain is on the his new single.

"So many people have been asking for that song, so I finally recorded it," he said.

Fare Hair

WHAT a difference a beanie makes. Guy had a giggle in Sydney this week when a taxi driver launched a scathing attack on "that Guy Sebastian" -- without knowing the man himself was sitting in the back.

When Guy casually told him he was a singer, the cabbie said: "As long as you don't tell me you're that effin' Guy Sebastian -- who's going to know him in six months?"

The driver was stunned when Guy removed his beanie to reveal his trademark afro.
